The first thing Shigure realizes is he has to have a Daddy look, complete with beard and Tired expression. For some reason, it works very well on the fanclub. They love Daddy Obi-wan. Anyway.
There's three people who seem willing to talk to Daddywan:
A ) A young, very beautiful girl. She doesn't seem to be at the Fight Club to fight at all, but to instead watch some of her favorite fighters go for a few rounds. ("Hiiii, Shigure!!") B ) A tall, muscular man. He's a rookie fighter at the club who sees Obi-wan as his biggest role model. C ) An older, extremely buff woman who is a more seasoned fighter at the club. Her expression is kind of severe, but she's actually rather amiable.
Shigure is unfortunately getting distracted by A), the pretty woman actually paying attention to him?? Why is Obi-wan letting this happen, I liked this better when it was Obi-wan doing the seduction.
Shigure can't really put on the charm and is instead just himself, for better or for worse. He'll talk to the girl! Thankfully, he still remembers the original reason he and Obi-wan are here today and will not just try to hit on her.
Shigure is a sucker. But this is what he gets for being a sexy mailman. Maybe it isn't all about being a Daddy after all...?
The girl flirts playfully with Shigure who is giving her as much attention as she's giving him. It makes her more willing to talk openly. He finds out she's a courtesan in Middleton. She thinks Shigure is handsome, but not as handsome, unfortunately, as Baren. :'( She's trying hard to win Baren's affection.
But she does say she's heard of some Mori going missing. She grows serious, drawing Shigure closer. If Shigure (and Obi-wan, too) will do something for her, she says she'll tell them what she's overheard in the courtesan house.
Do they decide to:
A ) Help her convince Baren to take her on a date. B ) Throw each other to the wolves by offering up one of them to go on a date with her in Baren's stead.
Well, first, Shigure internally despairs over how Baren is so popular. He recognizes that Baren is a very handsome man so he understands why everyone wants to date him, but rejected again...!
Anyway, he would go with A), because Shigure doesn't go after women whose hearts are already taken........... but as he's standing there in woe, Obi-wan comes to the rescue (?).
To quote Ari: "obi's absolutely gonna flirt smile at her and say in much nicer words than me that baren's a lil shit and a terrible date but my buddy here is absolutely gold star material. who lets obi-wan do things"
Aka we're going with B), Obi-wan is sacrificing Shigure.
Wow, Shigure! Stand up for what you want sometime! Fuck Baren, that heartbreaker! Rumor has it, he lets Jiang Cheng handcuff him in bed anyway.
For a moment or two, the girl gives Shigure an appraising once-over. The more she looks, the more she thinks Obi-wan is right. Shigure is starting to become a diamond in the rough! (Obi-wan's secret is being old enough to not give a shit in trying to get what you want.) She smiles and wraps her arms around one of Shigure's own.
She accepts a date with Shigure! Her name is Rose, by the way. ;)

A ) An extravagant restaurant just outside the heart of Xian Le territory, one with a nice view overlooking the river. B ) A small, but cute Middleton cafe that has a flat, patio roof; the view looks out on glittering Peony Bridge. C ) A boisterous and welcoming family-run restaurant in Mori territory; it has a very Italian-feel and even a live band.
On the contrary, Baren is suspiciously missing from her vicinity... as usual.
The Middleton cafe charms her! Specifically because it overlooks Peony Bridge, and that's extremely romantic. Thank you, Shigure. She now wants to hook a lock with him on the bridge, so don't stand her up.
She does tell Shigure what she knows over dinner, though: a few semi-regular Xian Le men have been bragging in Rose's courtesan house about the Mori numbers dwindling because they're being put in their place. One of them said something about a woman recently "escaping," and they haven't been able to find her.
For the next week, Shigure and Obi-wan will be accosted by gaggles of different women from the courtesan house. Many of them ask Shigure when he's going to marry Rose, when they're going to have kids, etc. A lot give Shigure letters to deliver to each other just so they can stop him to ask questions. Obi-wan has many of the older women trying desperately to court him. He'll end find that, suspiciously, some of his underwear and shirts go missing off the clothesline when he's drying them. Hm.
