Shigure gets a huuuuuuge welcome at the brothel. ;) Most of the girls squeal and swarm both him--and by extension--Kara, as soon as they come into the front doors. "Who's your friend?!" they trill at Shigure. "He's so handsome!" Kara is getting a few googly eyes from some of them.
Oh, a sword! They all look at each other and start whispering. The sword! It's his probably! Yes, his arms look like he probably uses a sword! That's it then. Good luck getting it, one girl says. But they all want Shigure and Kara to come with them. Still in one big swarm, they pull both men over to a set of stairs and up. All of them are a-chatter as they ascend to the second story.
At the top, they lead Shigure and Kara through a side hall to the end where there are a set of double doors. One of the girls knocks. From inside, a low and sultry, but sharp voice says,
"Who is it?"
All the girls turn to look at Shigure and Kara pointedly.
There isn't really any other sound from inside, and then, suddenly, both doors are flung open wide. All the girls quickly scatter back from Kara and Shigure as if the wind from the doors had blown them like leaves. They fold their hands between their thighs and bow low.
In the doorway isn't a man or a woman, or maybe it's both. They're gorgeous in their androgyny; very tall, perhaps as tall as Jiang Cheng and Sephiroth to Kara, legs long between the curtain of the elegant black robe. Their body has no curves, but their face is painted, their lashes long, and their dark hair piled up on the back of the neck in curls.
They give both Kara and Shigure an appraising once-over in turn, very slow, and then they step back to allow Shigure and Kara to enter what appears to be a study. As they shut the doors behind, they flick a dismissive hand to the girls who all sigh and trudge away. They gesture for Kara and Shigure to sit in the two chairs as they sweep around behind the desk.
Settled on the hooks of a plaque high on the wall behind the desk is... Kara's sword. Then they realize... quite a bit of the walls of the room are filled with weapons of all kinds: guns, knives, an axe, other swords.
"You came with the courier, but not the police, or Xian Le goons?" they ask in a smooth voice. "Cute."
What will dear Shigure and Kara ask first:
A ) Their name. B ) About Kara's sword. C ) How's business?
shigure says it's because they're friends! kara suffers internally but doesn't argue, and asks about his sword because he, unfortunately, doesn't care about their host's name. he's probably going to regret this soon.
Kara. Extra rude. Which naturally, the person holding Kara's sword 'hostage' looks somewhat offended.
"This one?" And they brandish a nailed hand over their shoulder to the one hanging on the wall behind them. "Its owner discarded it like trash. Left it lying around for anyone to take. One of my girls found it and brought it to me. I don't think a master so careless should really have something so beautiful.
"If you want it back, you have to prove you're a worthy owner: you have to take one of my girls on a date. I'm sure you can do that, can't you?"
They move back around the desk to usher both Kara and Shigure out again. When the doors open, all three will find a good collection of girls huddled close to try to hear what's all going on inside. The girls scatter as before, bowing, and the owner has them line up along the wall without any time to try to look cute.
Instead of Kara getting to choose, however, they do the honors of picking him one out of the group. She's nothing like any of the curvier, seductive and experienced girls. On the contrary, she is a small and quiet dirty-blonde with a face full of freckles and golden eyes; she seems a little scared of Kara. The owner sends her with Kara and Shigure and warns Kara only to return with her after the date.
Firstly, they find out the girl has had her tongue slit, and she doesn't talk much if at all. When she does, it's too garbled to understand.
No matter what kind of advice Shigure gives, the date will be atrocious. They can't find a table, the food is bad, something dastardly has happened an alley over and no one is allowed through, the river smells especially briny today. But the girl isn't loud or bothersome, and makes motions to try to ask Kara about his day, what he does, if he enjoys it, and she starts smiling, being less scared.
When he takes her back, she thanks him with tears. The other girls seem surprised. They say the owner of the brothel, Hemlock, bought her from a Xian Le woman, and she's been frightened of Xian Le since. Hemlock, of course, returns Kara's sword, the hilt in one palm and the sheathe resting over their forearm.

They wouldn't be able to at this time unfortunately! The girls don't know much more than that, and Hemlock doesn't seem like they want to discuss it with either Shigure or Kara.
