Wen Ning is probably much nicer to this concerned human than Royce is, but either way, they're going to try and figure out how to rent a boat to go out to the area that the concerned human was talking about. If they can't get anybody to willingly do so, Wen Ning will use his onibi power to lure people out towards the way of the islands the human pointed out. Unfortunately, both Royce and Wen Ning hate being on the water so this is a miserable trip of Royce being HORRENDOUSLY seasick and Wen Ning just internally screaming because water bad for fire spirits. rip whoever has to deal with these two.
Anyway they want to see if they can get out to around where the brother vanished and see if they can figure out where people are getting taken? And also like maybe, how. Are they just swiping people off their boats, are people getting led astray...
They manage to get a rather disgruntled demon to take them, who definitely regrets this and will be angry of Royce vomits.
Royce will be able to tell that the area they're being taken to is... well, where the island he is familiar with was. However, despite the fact that the island is gone, the demon refuses to get too close to the spot.
"No way. I watched a whole ship crash into a whirlpool. Another ship that was passing by went to help any survivors... that ship didn't crash, but it also never left the island. That place was cursed. Must have been an act from the gods to wipe it from this world overnight."
If Royce was less seasick he'd probably threaten the demon until he took them closer to the spot, but he IS seasick, so he just sort of lets Wen Ning take the wheel. Wen Ning asks about the surrounding islands, since that first human mentioned his brother going out to multiple ones. Is there anything weird with those ones? Did he see anything weird when the island vanished? What else has this demon seen? Does the demon know anything about the sacrifices that were going on on that island? Does he know anybody who got off the island? Does he think the island was actually cursed, or is he just making noise about it being creepy? Does he know if there's been any more disappearances since the island vanished?
I KNOW THAT'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS I'M JUST TRYING TO BE THOROUGH!!! we weren't sure what else to do weh.
Oh and Royce threatens in the background, if the demon is uncooperative, because of course he does. He probably has a knife to back his points up.
The demon does not appreciate this. But! He will answer that there's nothing weird as far as he knows about the surrounding islands. While all of them have legends attached to them, people have explored them and come back safely often enough for it to not be that worrisome. The one that sank, though, is known among sailors for being a death trap so they do their best to avoid it. When the island vanished, it was more that it just very suddenly started to sink one night, and that some fishermen saw two boats leaving from it. He also doesn't know anything concrete about what was actually going on, but every time someone has purposely tried to sail there, they were never seen again, and any ships that went too close would almost always sink to the point where they actively warned people away from it. So, yes, he thinks it was cursed. Also, as far as he knows, he hasn't heard about anything else.
well, at least they know there's two boats full of demons that made it off the island... that means royce's demon boyfriend probably is out there, sacrificing humans and thinking fondly of the random succubus that invaded his island.
anyway I guess they'll just ask the demon to take them back to shore? since royce and wen ning aren't particularly ready for drowning and also idk if we have any responses left anyway.
He will take them back to shore begrudgingly. When they get off the boat, he'll give them one last warning.
"Just try to avoid doing anything that'll make the gods angry. They're always giving us gifts even if you don't realize it, and I bet that cursed island sank because they slighted the gods."
