Kitty kitty cat cat! Focusing on the cat creates something of a movie reel that unrolls in their mind's eye. They watch this cat try to wind around the legs of its owner, watch as the owner shakes it off and leaves. The cat pursues them, meowing pitifully, but gets slower and slower as the person walks away, until it is left behind. The cat wanders for a bit, lost and sad, and people all around it turn a blind eye. They refuse to acknowledge when it approaches, and some go so far as to try to scare it away or kick it.
Eventually, though, it comes across a small girl. She allows it to approach her, and pets it carefully. She offers a little bit of food from her pocket. As the cat eats and purrs for the first time, she gently ties a red ribbon around its neck.
The voice of the young man pipes up again, warmly. He repeats himself once more. Rebuild.
Do they:
A) Have anything to say to the god more directly? B) Attempt to catch the attention of the cat? C) Something else?
the boyz are definitely going to A) try to speak to the god more directly.
More specifically: they want to point out how they can only rebuild so much when the world around them is tearing it down as fast as they can put it back together. Death has already touched their party in their attempt to try and help once--but they won't stop because of it. (xl voice just stab me ill be fine)
How can they help the Maou and gain their trust, if they can't get close enough to even offer the food to begin with? They're just regular people (mostly). What can they, as regular people, do to help? They aren't the Maou, so how can they support them?
As they address this particular god more directly, they'll get the feeling that the god pauses as though distantly aware of them. When he speaks again, it's not with words so much with sensations and staccato images. They will know instinctively that he's speaking directly to them this time.
They will see two blurry silhouettes. The cat moves away from the girl, who vanishes, and begins to change until its shape is a blurry silhouette as well. The three of them stand side by side. The person who was once a cat takes the red ribbon from their neck, and the other two reach out to hold onto it, too. They stand together, unified.
More and more blurry silhouettes begin to appear, surrounding these three. Some are tied together by a floating cord of red from the moment they manifest, while others grab hold of it a bit later. Faces of people Xie Lian, Royce and Wen Ning know briefly surface through the blur, but these new silhouettes are constantly shifting, unlike the first three that remain faceless. They stand in a protective circle around those three forms. They fiercely fend off gnarled, shadowy hands that grasp and violently tear at their strings, trying to reach through them to get at the three figures and the ribbon they hold tightly onto.
The sensation Xie Lian, Royce and Wen Ning get from them is a refusal to bend to the notion that division is inevitable.
Then, abruptly, the vision goes dark as their connection to the gods is severed.
The three of them will suffer from excruciating migraines and a constant ringing in their ears for the next hour! For the following 2 days after that, they will sporadically hear the cacophony of muted god-voices in their minds. They won't be able to pick out any exact words, but judging by tone, they'll be able to tell there's a lot of in-fighting going on. After these bouts of accidental eavesdropping end, they'll deal with a milder headache and tinnitus for a few minutes. Attempting to focus in on the voices for too long will cause them to bleed from the nose and ears, too! Fun. And with that, good Scoobies, this investigation is over.
